Greggy Girl Sponsors Efforts to Protect Loggerhead Turtles

HOUSTON, Aug. 21, 2008 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Internationally recognized children's wear label, Greggy Girl(r) is supporting efforts to protect the endangered sea turtles by sponsoring the tracking of a female loggerhead turtle in Bonaire, Netherland Antilles. The turtle, named 'Greggy Girl,' was fitted with a satellite transmitter on August 2, while nesting in Klein Bonaire. 'Greggy Girl' is the second turtle to be tracked in 2008 by the Sea Turtle Conservation Bonaire (STCB) and the 15th since the group began its tracking program in 2003.

"It is imperative that we focus our efforts on protecting the reefs and saving endangered species, like the loggerhead turtles, for future generations," said Cher M. Floyd, JMFA-Greggy Girl, Inc. executive. "By participating in this effort to track and monitor 'Greggy Girl's' migratory patterns, we can more effectively protect turtle habitats and ensure that these gentle creatures will survive and thrive throughout the world, and continue to surprise and delight children as they learn the important connection between conservation and the future health of our planet."

'Greggy Girl' has a shell length of 3.17 ft. and is estimated to weigh about 264 lbs. Adult loggerhead turtles come to Bonaire to breed from May through July. The turtle is expected to remain in the area and lay at least one more nest before departing the island and continuing on her migratory path, which will continue to be tracked by STCB.

The popular Greggy Girl(r) clothing label, a favorite of some of the most popular child and young adult stars in Hollywood, is designed by Charlene May, who along with Mrs. Floyd, gains inspiration from the sea, sailing and scuba diving. Mrs. Floyd, a long-time supporter of the environment, began working with the STCB in September 2007.
