TUCSON, Ariz., Aug. 22, 2008 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- For decades, the scruff, gun-slinging cowboys of the silver screen have colored the images of the Wild West with their dangerously exciting adventures. The world has remained spellbound by the American Southwest until this day as the stereotypes linger. A.V. Scrivner's fascinating new book allows us a raw and very real glimpse of this Valiant Southwest.

The blazing heat and the arid landscape remain constants along with the region's multicultural people in the Valiant Southwest. This book delves on a more earnest look into the momentous events that forever changed the geography and history of the United States. It traces the progress of this unique area to statehood, declaring that when the Southwest was annexed, the current shape of the continental United States was finally achieved.
