Harsco Secures $8 Million Infrastructure Contract to Support Victoria Station Work in London

HARRISBURG, Pa., Aug. 28, 2008 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Worldwide industrial services company Harsco Corporation (NYSE:HSC) announced today it has secured a new contract valued at more than $8 million to provide rental scaffolding and related access services throughout the refurbishment and roof replacement of the famous Victoria Station in central London.

Harsco's award from integrated support and construction services provider May Gurney comes on the strength of Harsco's successful scaffolding design and installation work last year at London's Earls Court Station, which presented similar design, engineering and safety challenges. The area to be re-roofed at Victoria Station covers eight platforms, major communication boards, an entrance to the London Underground, and numerous retail outlets. Approximately 350,000 travelers pass through on a daily basis, making Harsco's proven record for engineering and project safety key considerations in its selection. Now underway, Harsco's involvement is expected to continue until project completion in early 2010.

"The modernization and expansion of infrastructure is a constant, ongoing market demand in every part of the world, and will continue to be a substantial part of our growth," said Harsco President Geoffrey D. H. Butler. "In Britain alone, the run-up to the London Olympics in 2012 is expected to generate more than $10 billion of new construction and infrastructure modernization. By virtue of our specialist design capability and expertise in developing tailored access solutions we continue to redouble our expertise in this sector, and should be well-positioned to capitalize on many of these upcoming opportunities."
