A Government of the People -- New Book Reminds Us of the Founding Principles of Our Great Nation

MADERA, Calif., Aug. 28, 2008 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- In the immortal words of Abraham Lincoln, "...and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth." Too often we have missed the point of what this important declaration really means, as well as somehow forgetting the foundational principles of our great nation. If America is to reclaim its rightful place as a leader in the world its people needs be reminded of their heritage. To this end, William G. Burmer has written a highly meaningful work "WE THE PEOPLE" for the modern age.

During the 18th and early 19th century, it was common to see the Bible and the Constitution lie together upon the end tables of America's homes. They were read often, with genuine interest and concern, and then properly applied. Thus, included in the pages of William G. Burmer's "WE THE PEOPLE" are the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and an appeal to study the Declaration of Independence. These documents are indispensable tools affecting our primal existence as Americans. Sadly, for the most part, they are ignored in modern America.

This book seeks to open all readers' eyes to the true greatness of America. America's founding documents can only have power if they are read, understood, and honored by the polity. This would surely include those who are called to govern, and must be righteously enforced by "WE THE PEOPLE" as the law of the land. Most Americans have forgotten -- or never knew -- that they, in fact, are the government.

About the Author

People in general are impressed with credentials especially if one is publishing historical novels; I have none. I am an insatiable reader. I have been raised all my life to love God, and my country. With the exception of one brother, three of us proudly served in the military during the Vietnam conflict. I am a Latter Day Saint (Mormon) and the experiences of my youth, my faith and adult life have influenced the 15 years of research that have gone into the writing of my book "We the People." A lot of what I have written, to many readers, will appear controversial at best. I found it imperative to verify all of my materials and sources; I think I did a good job of documenting them. America is truly a great country. Sadly, most people don't really comprehend how great America really is. If what I have written inspires you, disturbs you, or motivates you, in the end if it gets you moving, I have accomplished by goal. William Grant Burmer
