The power situation as of 3 September 2008

Lysaker, 3 September 2008

Nord Pool has received the following information from the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE):

Large price increase in Southern-Norway
The elspot price in Southern-Norway (NO1) increased by 8 øre from week 34 to 49 øre/kWh in week 35. The price increase in the other Norwegian areas was not as large as in Southern-Norway. The price in Southern-Norway is now 7 øre lower than in Middle-Norway (NO2) and 3 øre lower than in Northern-Norway (NO3). The week price in Southern-Norway has increased since the beginning of July, but the largest increase has been the last two weeks. The price difference between Southern- and Middle-Norway has not been lower since week 12 this year.

The increase of the prices can be related to lower inflow and decrease of the reservoir level the last two weeks. The reservoir level decreased by 0.5 percentage points during week 35 and is now 85.6 percent. That is 0.8 percentage points over the median level of the week. The decrease was largest in Southern-Norway. In this area the reservoir level decreased by 0.6 percentage points during the last week.
