Lives Saved as Police Use TASER Device to End Dangerous Domestic Dispute

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., Sept. 6, 2008 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- TASER International, Inc. (Nasdaq:TASR), a market leader in advanced electronic control devices (ECDs) issued the following NEWS ALERT:

According to an article in the September 6, 2008 edition of the Calgary Sun entitled "Woman saved by officer's use of stun-gun", a woman and her common-law husband are alive today thanks to the ability of police to use a TASER(r) Electronic Control Device to safely end an otherwise dangerous domestic dispute situation.

Police were called to the scene of a domestic dispute on Friday, September 5 and discovered the man threatening his wife with a meat clever. As police entered the house, the man used his wife as a shield, continued to threaten her with the meat clever before urging police to kill him.

According to the article, while five other officers had firearms drawn on the man, Sergeant Mike Lemore saw an opportunity to deploy his TASER device as a few inches of the man was exposed between his armpit and his waistband. The TASER was deployed instantly disarming the man and ending the situation.

"If there is ever a deadly force situation -- this was it," Sgt Lemore is quoted in the article as saying. "It's fortunate we had a Taser and it resolved the situation without deadly force."
