STOCKMANN GROUP SALES IN AUGUST 2008
In August, Stockmann Group's consolidated sales grew by 50 per cent to EUR
185.9 million. The growth was attributable to including Lindex's sales in
the Stockmann Group's figures and the growth of sales in Seppälä,
Department Store Division and Lindex. In general, the trend of sales in
August was clearly more positive in the Nordic and Baltic market than
during previous June and July months.
Seppälä's sales increased in all markets, totally by 19 per cent. Sales in
Finland increased by 11 per cent and by 35 abroad. Sales development was
very strong especially in Russia. Also Lindex's sales increased and Lindex
opened very successfully its first store in St Petersburg in Russia in the
middle of August.
Department Store Division's sales increased by 3 per cent. Sales in
Finland increased by 2 per cent in Finland and by 4 per cent abroad,
despite the closure in May of the department store in the Smolensky
Passage shopping centre in Moscow due to the illegal action of the lessor.
Sales in Finnish department stores were otherwise good but compared to
previous year were weakened by the boom of digital TV sets and set-top
boxes during 2007. The same phenomenon burdened Hobby Hall's sales, which
were down by 22 per cent, 22 per cent in Finland and 21 per cent abroad.
