SWEDISH MARKET COURT FINDS BILIA GUILTY OF ILLEGAL PRICE COLLABORATION IN 1998-2002

The Swedish Market Court today reversed the previous decision by the Stockholm City Court to acquit Bilia Personbilar and seven other authorised Volvo dealers in Skåne and Blekinge. As part of this judgement, Bilia Personbilar has been ordered to pay competition damages of SEK 6 million, which corresponds to just under five per cent of the Swedish Competition Authority’s claim totalling SEK 122 million. This sum of SEK 6 million will be charged against Bilia’s result for the third quarter of 2008.

Bilia’s CEO Jan Pettersson has made the following comment.

“The Swedish Market Court has come to a different conclusion than the Stockholm City Court and has decided that Bilia Personbilar and other Volvo dealers in Skåne and Blekinge contravened the rules governing competition in 1998-2002.

“In spite of this, I am pleased that this long-drawn-out business has now been concluded and that we can focus all our attention on Bilia’s future challenges.”
