Hurricane Ike Has Minimal Impact On Cardtronics Operations

HOUSTON, Sept. 15, 2008 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Cardtronics, Inc. (Nasdaq:CATM) is headquartered in Houston, Texas, where Hurricane Ike struck Friday night. The Company announced that it did not suffer any significant impact from the storm on its operations.

Jack Antonini, the Company's Chief Executive Officer, said, "Our ATM transaction processing operations are conducted in a hardened data center in Dallas, Texas, 250 miles inland from Houston, and the relevant staff is housed in Dallas, so those operations saw no impact from the storm.

"Our ATM monitoring, cash management, maintenance management, and general corporate activities are conducted in Houston. When it became clear early last week that the Houston area was likely to be impacted by Hurricane Ike, we implemented our business continuity plan. Those activities and the critical personnel performing them were transferred to backup sites in Dallas, Texas and Portland, Oregon. Except for ATMs in the greater Houston metropolitan area which have been affected by power and communications outages, our network of approximately 33,000 ATMs is operating normally. I am also happy to say that there was no damage at our corporate headquarters; the power is on, and we intend to begin migrating operations back to Houston on Monday, September 15th."

Chris Brewster, the Company's Chief Financial Officer, added, "During normal times, we typically achieve ATM uptime of 98.3% to 99.5%. This level of performance has been maintained across the approximately 32,700 ATMs that are not located in the metropolitan Houston area. With regard to ATMs in the Houston metropolitan area, including Galveston, Texas, we have approximately 327 machines that are currently not operating, typically because there is no electric power or because communications lines are down at the location. We expect these machines to return to service as these issues are addressed in the coming days."
