Northrop Grumman Showcases C4ISR Systems At 2008 Joint Symposium

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J., Sept. 16, 2008 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) will highlight its suite of C4ISR (command, control, communications and computer, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance) systems that help comprise the Army's net-centric enterprise during the 2008 Joint Symposium.

The conference, which is being held today through Thursday at the Atlantic City Convention Center, is sponsored by the Fort Monmouth Chapters of the Army Aviation Association of America, Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association, Association of Old Crows, and Association of the United States Army. Northrop Grumman will exhibit at booth number 500.

This year's conference theme is "Army Team C4ISR: Building and sustaining the enterprise that links leaders and soldiers -- today and tomorrow." A key element of this enterprise is the DCGS-A (Distributed Common Ground System - Army) V4 Mobile system developed by the Northrop Grumman industry team. A key feature at the booth, DCGS-A is designed to integrate multiple, existing ISR systems into a single multi-intelligence system, making the data and data products accessible and distributable to Army Battle Command.

Northrop Grumman's exhibit will also feature its approach to the future Aerial Common Sensor program, an airborne collection and exploitation system that will provide commanders in theater and troops on the ground with a net-ready, survivable and sustainable, multi-sensor persistent tactical surveillance capability. When operational, ACS will allow commanders to see first, understand first, act first and finish decisively. Northrop Grumman is currently leading an industry team pursuing this program.

Other Northrop Grumman C4ISR systems on display that enhance the link between decision makers and troops on the ground include the Frequency Hopping Multiplexer (FHMUX), Firefinder, Battle Command Product Line, Vehicular Intercommunication System, and SCORPION - Persistent Surveillance System.

The FHMUX was developed for the U.S. Army Communications Electronics Command to enable four Single Chanel Ground and Airborne Radio System tactical radios to operate via a single antenna. It simultaneously reduces the antenna signature of command vehicles and mitigates interference from co-located transmitters and receivers. FHMUX is currently in production and supported with more than 3,000 systems deployed by the Army, Navy and international customers.

Firefinder is a mobile ground-based radar that provides automatic, fast and accurate locations of artillery, mortars and rocket launchers. Firefinder (V)8 extends system performance and lowers life cycle cost. Greater processing power and the addition of a low noise amplifier to the radar antenna improves detection range (by up to 50%) and performance accuracy against certain threats.

The Battle Command Product Line is a major Pentagon initiative to leverage Northrop Grumman's Force XXI Battle Command Brigade and Below (FBCB2) software product line across ground and air platforms within the tactical battlespace, lowering lifecycle costs, reducing fielding schedules, and improving interoperability and product quality.

The Vehicular Intercommunication System (VIS) provides clear, noise-free communications between crew members inside combat vehicles and externally over as many as six combat net radios. The VIS (type classified as AN/VIC-3) is currently in high volume production with our team partner Cobham Defense.

The SCORPION(tm) system provides long and short range target recognition for situational awareness, border and perimeter security and persistent surveillance.
