The power situation in Norway as of 17 September

Lysaker, 17 September 2008

Nord Pool has received the following information from the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE):

Reservoir level below the median level
The level of the Norwegian reservoirs was 85.3 percent by the end of week 37. That is 2.3 percentage points below the median level for the week. The reservoir level is now lower than the median level for the first time since week 14 last year. The reservoir level decreased by 0.8 percentage points last week. Low inflow contributed to the decrease.

There were little movements in elspot prices in Norway last week. Lower temperatures in parts of the country and low inflow had an upwards effect on elspot prices, but lower prices of fuel and carbon emissions had the opposite effect.

Lower prices of fuel and carbon emissions also contributed to a fall of the Nordic forward prices last week. The fourth quarter 2008 forward price decreased by 38 kroner to 554 NOK/MWh, while the first quarter 2009 forward price decreased by 40 kroner to 571 NOK/MWh.
