A Man Named Minnesota Fats -- Remarkable Memoir Traces the Story of Billiards Great Rudolf Wanderon

MURFREESBORO, Tenn., Sept. 17, 2008 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Beijing 2008 Olympics, at least for several weeks, turned the attention of the world away from depressing news events and towards more constructive human endeavor like sports. Such is the power of true sportsmanship, fierce competition, and being witness to the drive for excellence. In the same spirit, it is timely that a remarkable story about a sportsman and entertainer unfolds in Fred Walther's Wanderon.

A true story, Wanderon is the larger-than-life tale of billiards great Rudolf Walter "Minnesota Fats" Wanderon and his equally interesting ancestors. This well-researched biography begins in Hungary with the hussars, a group of mercenaries, and ends with the third generation, an American icon, Minnesota Fats, the entertainer and billiard champion. The lives of the three Wanderons have touched history's most memorable events: one hundred years of revolutions and wars around the world, and friendships with movie stars, corporate tycoons, mobsters, and other notables. This book not only details their adventure throughout the past 150 years and the uniqueness of the Wanderons, but is also an investigation to the secret of their success.

Wanderon will add spice and give a new perspective to the past -- while revealing a unique formula to the Wanderon family's success. Definitely a book not to be missed!

Fred Walther is a billiard enthusiast who has been in the automobile business since selling his first used car in 1959. A dean's list graduate of Southern Illinois University, he and Margie, his wife of 43 years, were privileged to befriend and hear a multitude of fascinating stories told by pool great Minnesota Fats (Rudolf Walter Wanderon). They visited their friend often in the lobby of Nashville's palatial old Hermitage Hotel, where Fats lived. A friendship and business relationship developed from 1985 until Fats' death in 1996. These intriguing stories prompted him to write his first book -- Minnesota Fats, Never Behind The Eight Ball published in 1998.
