FINNAIR OYJ INVESTOR NEWS 26.9.2008 Finnair will reach an important milestone for its Japanese flights when the company starts flying daily to Tokyo in 2010. “Increasing the Tokyo flights to a daily service has been our consistent goal for the last 20 years,” says SVP Commercial Division Mika Perho. Air traffic agreement negotiations between Finland and Japan in September 2008 agreed on the right to increase the number of flights to all of Finnair's present destinations in Japan, namely Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya. “Even in financially difficult times, we must also look purposefully towards future earning opportunities. Receiving additional flights to Japan shows that Finnair's Asian strategy is moving forward. Our goal is to establish daily connections to all of our Asian destinations, and in this we have now succeeded with regard to Tokyo and Nagoya. We can now offer our customers more efficient flight connections than in the past and better service,” explains Perho. Finland immediately has the right to 21 weekly return flights between Finland and Japan: four to Tokyo, ten to Osaka and seven to Nagoya. The number of Tokyo flights will grow to seven when the lengthening of Narita Airport's second runway is completed in 2010. The total number of Japanese flights will then increase to 24. The air traffic agreement also allows Finnair unlimited code sharing rights to Japanese domestic destinations via Osaka and Nagoya and also to three destinations via Tokyo. Finnair and its oneworld alliance partner Japan Airlines have cooperated with each other since 2005. Finnair's flight number is on Japan Airlines' flights to Sapporo and Fukuoka as well as to Haneda Airport, Tokyo. There are connections to these destinations from Finnair's Finland-Japan flights. In addition, Finnair's frequent flyers have the chance to collect frequent flyer points and use their frequent flyer awards on Japan Airlines' flights.
