KONECRANES TO SUPPLY HIGH-TECH RTG CRANES TO CONTAINER TERMINAL IN INDONESIA

Konecranes to supply high-tech RTG cranes to container terminal in Indonesia

Konecranes received an order at the end of August for four new-generation
rubber tired gantry (RTG) cranes from Indonesian port operator PT Terminal
Petikemas Surabaya (TPS). The RTGs will be delivered to the TPS container
terminal in Surabaya in Autumn 2009. The value of the order is not disclosed.

“In its ongoing drive to offer better service to its customers while at the
same time benefiting its shareholders, TPS has contracted Konecranes for the
purchase of an additional four RTGs to bring the total of Konecranes RTGs at
this terminal to 16 out of a total of 27,” says Sanjay Mehta, Vice President -
Director of Terminal Petikemas Surabaya.

“TPS has had a long-standing business and mutually beneficial relationship with
Konecranes over the past nine years,” Mr Mehta adds. “As a measure of
confidence in the technological ability, the emphasis on design leading to fuel
economy and the excellent service activities on site, TPS has again chosen
Konecranes to realize its target of improving efficiency and ability to manage
increased container handling capacity”.

“The latest order brings new crane technology to the TPS' RTG fleet in
Surabaya,” says Thomas Gylling Sales Manager, Port Cranes at Konecranes.
“Indonesia is an attractive market and we are happy to supply these new
state-of-the-art cranes to Surabaya”.

A Konecranes service branch office was established at TPS' terminal already in
2001 when the first Konecranes RTGs were delivered to the customer.

“Indonesia is a strong market for Konecranes port handling equipment - and one
that is still developing alongside the country's general growth,” says Ryan
Flynn, Director, Konecranes Ports, Northeast and Southeast Asia.
This order represents a further strengthening of the long-term partnership
between TPS and Konecranes. It also justifies the long-term approach of
continuous investments, Konecranes has been making across the region in supply
chain, service activities and front line operations to fuel the growth.

The recently ordered new generation fuel-saving RTGs have been designed to take
account of future environmental requirements. Thanks to the Konecranes fuel
saving system, they can save up to even 40 % in fuel consumption by eliminating
high-speed idling. This also reduces noise and emissions. The 16-wheel RTGs can
stack one over five containers high and seven wide plus a truck lane.
