At today's meeting Tallinn City Government approved water and wastewater service tariffs that will be applied from 1st of January 2009 onwards; the tariffs will increase by 12.8% in the next year. For domestic customers the new tariffs will be 32.33 kroons/m3 for the water and wastewater service. For business customers the new water tariffs will be 43.28 kroons/m3. The wastewater service tariff for business customers is dependant on the concentration of pollution in the wastewater. The new tariff comprises of the K coefficient of 2%, the CPI of 11.4% and the impact of the change in law of minus 0.6%. The impact of the change in law was conditioned by the amendment to the Income Tax Law approved in 2008 that applies an advance payments regime for the payment of Company's income tax. The tariff increase is in accordance with the Services Agreement concluded by the City of Tallinn and AS Tallinna Vesi on 30 September 2002. Ian Plenderleith, the Chairman of the Management Board of AS Tallinna Vesi, emphasised that the increase in tariff enables the company to continue investments into water quality, environmental protection and increasing customer satisfaction. “To date the company has achieved world standard regarding the quality of water, environmental impact and customer services. Increasing costs such as environmental charges, electricity, gas and chemicals, sets a great challenge for us to maintain these service levels which we are committed to further improve on behalf of the citizens of Tallinn and the wider environment. ,” explained Plenderleith.
