About the Author

Jamel Thomas was born on July 19, 1976 in Brooklyn, New York's Coney Island by Michele Thomas, who was murdered at the age of twenty-three. At that time, he was taken in by his aunt and now mother Erica Thomas Turner Telfair. At a pivotal age of thirteen, he decided to play basketball and never stopped. He attended Abraham Lincoln High School where he not only along with his teammates, won the state basketball championship, he also met one of the most influential people in his life today, Mrs. Lenore Braverman, who has guided Jamel throughout his high school, college and his personal life. She helped him become a graduate of Lincoln High School in 1995 and most importantly become a man. In the same year he was recruited and accepted to Providence College. During his career in Providence, he helped take his team to the elite eight, which they lost to Arizona University; his senior year he led his conference in scoring averaging 22.1 points. And in 1999, the author got his Bachelor of Arts degree. Even though the NBA didn't draft him, it never stopped him from achieving his professional goals. And now he is a professional European basketball player. Not just a basketball player, but also a man with a plan. While focused on books and ball, he still upheld his responsibility of providing for his family; financially and otherwise. Not just helping his family but helping outsiders as well. Jamel has a gift for helping others achieve their goals while he struggles to achieve his.
