Discovering a New World in Turncoat -- A World With Great Rivers, Virgin Lands and Diverse Culture

SAN ANTONIO, Oct. 1, 2008 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- A book from Xlibris takes you back to the time when American pioneers were moving out from the east coast and heading west looking for new lands and the opportunity to claim a homestead. Turncoat is a story that gives you a glimpse of the kind of life people had during this era.

In 1786, when Jim and Lil Rutherford set off from North Carolina and head west to find virgin land and the "great river," they begin a lifetime of adventures they could never have imagined. They settle along the banks of the Mississippi River and envision a great future for themselves. That is before they know the settlement of Lonsdale is just a few miles down the river, a place that is fast changing from a community of sober-minded settlers to a pleasure-seeking-money-mad town. They see growth and change as the area becomes part of the state of Tennessee. They see the vengeance of the Lord as the great earthquake of 1811 destroys the saloons and gambling dens of Lonsdale.
