Canyon Acres Announces New Cutting-Edge Treatment Program for Abused Children

ANAHEIM HILLS, Calif., Oct. 7, 2008 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Canyon Acres Children and Family Services, a charity organization committed to providing homes, care, treatment and supportive services for abused, neglected and emotionally troubled children and their families, today announced the launch of its new Therapeutic After-School Program at The Ranch, Children's Treatment Center. The program began September 17, 2008 with six children and is expected to grow to serve over 50 children within its first year.

Services are available after school Monday through Friday and are geared toward boys and girls, ages 5-12, who have come from abusive, neglectful and emotionally troubled backgrounds. The program is especially suited for children who are not behaviorally appropriate for traditional after-school programs. Children can take part in art, music, dance and other recreational group activities -- including Canyon Acres' signature, accredited Therapeutic Horse Riding Program.

"Canyon Acres is pleased to offer this innovative program for children needing a safe, therapeutic place," said Felicia Martin, MFT and vice president of programs for Canyon Acres. "Our unique set of activity-based therapies will help children in countless ways, and the various treatment modalities will give children a place to heal and grow that is so necessary in today's world. We look forward to serving hundreds of children at the ranch through this program in the years to come."

Canyon Acres' Therapeutic After-School Program represents the cutting-edge of work being done for children in the fields of child welfare and mental health services. The outdoor park-like setting, complete with swimming pool, ball field and playgrounds, complements The Ranch's warm and friendly indoor spaces for therapy.

"The After-School program represents the very best of what Canyon Acres does to restore a sense of safety and hope within children who need it most," said Clete Menke, executive director of Canyon Acres. "In the coming months and years, Canyon Acres is growing to support more children than ever with customized programs to meet their specific needs."
