CSMG Releases Report On Delivering Super-Fast Broadband in the U.K.

Ofcom Commissioned CSMG Report Defines Requirements to Successfully Deploy Super-Fast Broadband Services

OVERLAND PARK, Kan., Oct. 8, 2008 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- CSMG, the strategy division of TMNG Global (Nasdaq:TMNG), a leading provider of management consulting services to the communications, media and entertainment industries, today released the findings of where Ethernet Active Line Access (ALA) has been successfully deployed. The report, "Ethernet in the Access: International Case Studies," commissioned by the U.K. Office of Communications (Ofcom) and conducted by CSMG, examines the ways communications providers in other markets are opening up Ethernet access networks to wholesale companies, to encourage investment and promote competition in the provisioning of super-fast broadband services.

Ofcom is seeking to stimulate widespread dialogue on the issue of next-generation access, as well as to acknowledge the profound effects of a higher speed broadband roll-out for the economy and society in the U.K. In the report, CSMG identified and researched international case studies where Ethernet access is available and compared the technology with Ofcom's requirements of Ethernet ALA.

"This consultation comes at a time of increasing public concern that the U.K. is falling behind other developed economies in the roll-out of ultra-high speed next-generation fiber networks," said Bob House, Vice President of CSMG. "Our research reveals that Ethernet-based wholesale products may be offered over a range of network infrastructures and we can confirm that Ofcom's required characteristics can be met to a significant degree with Ethernet in the access network."

In the study, CSMG examined Ofcom's proposed requirements to support Ethernet ALA in developing seven international case studies, including:

 * the ability to support multicast and broadcast video services
 * the ability to provide a choice in 'Quality of Service' levels for
   customers with differing needs
 * the ability to encourage aggregation at multiple locations for
   resilience
 * flexible support for provision of different configurations of
   customer premises equipment
 * the ability to guarantee network and service security and
   integrity

"The roll-out of next-generation networks is a very costly endeavor in which the return is far from certain, and our analysis finds that the U.K. market concerns are similar to other developed markets," said Rich Nespola, Chairman and CEO of TMNG Global. "Our new study provides our clients with global insights into the best strategies and opportunities for provisioning next-generation networks that best address consumers, government, as well as businesses of all sizes across the communications sector."

The project involved interviewing key individuals within network operators, regulators and service providers around the world on insights regarding their Ethernet service offerings.
