Hyundai Autonet Has Chosen Techwell for the Automotive Infotainment System Installed in Grandeur

The Largest Automotive Electronics Company in Korea -- Hyundai Autonet -- Utilizes Techwell's TW8810 LCD Display Processors for SHARP(tm) Dual View Panels in Automotive Infotainment Applications

SAN JOSE, Calif., Oct. 29, 2008 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Techwell, Inc. (Nasdaq:TWLL), a leading designer of mixed signal video semiconductor solutions for the security surveillance, automotive, consumer and PC markets, today announced that Hyundai Autonet (HD Autonet), the largest automotive electronics company in Korea, is utilizing Techwell's TW8810 LCD Controller for SHARP(tm) dual-view panels in their premium in-car entertainment platforms featuring the dual view AV System. The dual view AV system is installed in the Grandeur line of automobiles from the Hyundai Motor Company and began mass production in February of 2008. Leveraging Techwell's TW8810, HD Autonet's Automotive Infotainment System enables the driver to view a full screen of navigation content and the passenger to view a full screen movie on the same LCD display simultaneously. Techwell's TW8810 is believed to be the only integrated ASIC solution currently on the market that enables SHARP(tm) dual-view displays.

"Techwell's TW8810 is the most highly integrated, feature rich solution on the market today for automotive infotainment solutions," said Tae-jin Kim, an engineer of Hyundai Autonet. "With Techwell's TW8810 and on-going technical support, we were able to reduce our hardware and firmware development time and bill of material cost, giving us a competitive advantage in the automotive infotainment market. In addition, Techwell's customizable bit-mapped OSD allowed us to generate a vivid GUI (Graphical User Interface)."

In addition to supporting the SHARP(tm) dual-view functionality, TW8810 utilizes advanced 3D comb filtering, de-interlacing, scaling and image enhancement algorithms to achieve high video quality critical in Automotive Infotainment display applications. Furthermore, Techwell's TW8810 has integrated a number of mixed signal analog to digital cores to directly support a number of applications including DVD Entertainment, Back-Up Camera, TV, Navigation and driver information content within the car.

"We are very pleased to have been selected by Hyundai Autonet, an automotive electronics specialist and the largest automotive electronics company in Korea, for their dual view AV system installed in Grandeur," said David Nam, VP Sales and Marketing for Techwell. "This design-win highlights our ability to provide high-performance, scalable LCD IC products to the growing in-car entertainment market. We look forward to continue our close collaboration with Hyundai Autonet."

Applications such as navigation, entertainment and driver information systems are causing the proliferation of in-car LCD displays in the automotive market. These displays are capable of displaying video and graphics signals from a variety of sources, including navigation systems, DVDs, game consoles, TV tuners and cameras. According to Telematics Research Group, shipments of navigation, entertainment and driver information systems are expected to grow from a combined 16.5 million units in 2004 to a combined 47.2 million units in 2009, representing a compound annual growth rate of 23%. In addition to being incorporated into new automobiles by manufacturers, these systems are also increasingly being purchased by consumers in the aftermarket. Techwell first introduced its integrated LCD display processor in 1999 and their newest generation products demonstrate an on-going commitment to this expanding market.
