The City of God? -- Explosive New Book Challenges Doctrines of Orthodox and Fundamentalist Religion

MOUNT DORA, Fla., Oct. 29, 2008 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- St. Augustine, in his influential book City of God, compared the then secular power of Rome to the heavenly kingdom of God - and set in motion certain attitudes and interpretations adopted by leaders of Christianity regarding the relationship of Church and State. But was this really a marriage made in heaven, or did mixing religion and politics result in an unholy alliance? Jon Canas addresses this question and more in his explosive new book, The Great Spiritual Robbery.

The Great Spiritual Robbery: Abuses of Religious Ideology, From Jerusalem to Washington and Baghdad is an incisive overview of the evolution of Christian Scriptures and dogma, leading to the startling conclusions that: the Bible is not the "word of God"; religion is not spirituality; and the Christian dogma is not the doctrine of Jesus Christ! It is also a harsh criticism of the theocratic bent of Fundamentalists with flawed precepts and their meddling into politics - sapping the democratic intent of the Government, and producing bad religion and bad politics. Unlike other books critical of religion, this one shows how spiritual discernment reveals the practical wisdom of authentic spirituality. Humanity is under growing terminal threats, and we are running out of time. A new spiritual paradigm, inspired from the great spiritual masters, is required to maintain the "Twelve Righteous Men", imbued of Truth, to save our allegorical "city".
