Emulex Delivers PRO-Enabled Management Pack Tailored for Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008

New PRO Pack Alerts Customers to Changes in I/O Rates Enabling Dynamic, Real-Time Performance Management of Virtualized Infrastructure SAN Connectivity

BARCELONA, Spain, Nov. 3, 2008 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Microsoft Tech-Ed EMEA IT Professionals -- Emulex Corporation (NYSE:ELX) today announced the availability of its Performance and Resource Optimization (PRO)-enabled management pack that extends PRO with storage related events and alerts customers to changes in I/O rates flowing through the adapter. Emulex, a Microsoft launch partner, is delivering a PRO pack supporting Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008, affirming its leadership in virtualization management. Emulex's management pack for PRO provides Virtual Machine Manager with the I/O connectivity information needed to improve the placement and migration of virtual machines based on storage requirements and available resources.

"Emulex is a leader in I/O connectivity for virtualization environments and is committed to working with Microsoft to deliver products to the market that offer cutting edge management features for virtualized server environments," said Scott McIntyre, vice president of product marketing, Emulex. "As server virtualization continues to drive SAN attach rates, Emulex's adapters provide end users with a comprehensive feature set that ensures server virtualization environments are optimized for SAN connectivity and storage-aware."

PRO, coupled with Emulex's LightPulse(r) adapters and management pack for PRO, enables administrators to monitor and control the allocation of virtualized servers connected to a storage area network (SAN). Emulex PRO-enabled management pack monitors incoming and outgoing I/O rates across Emulex LightPulse adapters and generates a notification when pre-defined thresholds are reached, allowing customers to take appropriate actions within Virtual Machine Manager, such as moving the virtual machine to a different physical server. With this solution in place, customers can dynamically manage the performance of their virtualized infrastructure SAN connectivity.

"A comprehensive management solution, such as that provided by the System Center offerings, is critical as companies implement a virtualized infrastructure. System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008 enables customers to configure and deploy new virtual machines and centrally manage them, whether running on Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V or VMware ESX Server," said Dai Vu, Director of Integrated Virtualization Marketing, Microsoft Corporation. "Emulex is an early adopter of System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008 and its incorporation of the PRO feature enhances data center application performance, helping our customers meet the resource demands of server virtualization and Windows Hyper-V."

This week at the Microsoft Tech-Ed EMEA IT Professionals Conference, Emulex will be showcasing the capabilities of the new management pack for PRO working with Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008 in its pod #5, in the System Center Alliance Pavilion. Additionally, at the conference, Emulex will be delivering a presentation titled, 'Advanced SAN Connectivity for Microsoft Server Virtualization Environments,' on Tuesday, November 4, 2008, in Solutions Theater #1.
