- Schmack Biogas presents preliminary figures for third quarter
- Turnaround in 2009 


Schwandorf, November 6, 2008. According to preliminary figures, between
January and September 2008, Schmack Biogas AG generated sales of
EUR 46.9 million (previous year: EUR 86.3 million). Third-quarter sales in
2008 amounted to EUR 17.1 million, compared to EUR 30.4 million in the
corresponding prior-year period. Earnings before interest and taxes stood
at EUR -31.2 million at the nine-month stage (previous year: EUR -14.4
million) and at EUR -5.4 million in the third quarter (previous year: EUR
-3.7 million). As of the end of September, orders on hand totalled EUR
125.6 million (September 30, 2007: EUR 103.4 million). Schmack Biogas
projects sales revenues of EUR 75 million and EBIT of approximately EUR -40
million for the full year.

In spite of the financial crisis, the industry environment has improved as
a result of the laws and regulations adopted in 2008 and the sharp drop in
agricultural prices. This is also reflected in the latest trend in incoming
orders. Against this background, Schmack Biogas projects sales of between
EUR 140 million and 160 million, and EBIT within the range of EUR -4
million to +4 million for 2009. The company thus aims to achieve the
turnaround in 2009. Reductions in process and overhead costs, higher sales
and the non-recurrence of negative effects in 2008 are expected to
contribute one third each to the sharp increase in EBIT.
