Quartics' Media Coprocessing Solution Featured as a Microsoft Windows 7 `Shed-Compatible' Architecture At WinHEC 2008

IRVINE, Calif., Nov. 10, 2008 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Quartics, a provider of semiconductor and software media processing solutions, announced today that its Media Coprocessor Solution (MCP) was showcased throughout Microsoft's WinHEC 2008 Conference in Los Angeles, November 5-7. Microsoft demonstrated Quartics' MCP as one of the first Secure Hardware Encoder Decoder (SHED) compatible components for netbooks, laptops and desktop PCs. The MCP solution was shown during the opening keynote as well as the technical sessions, and demonstrated to the press, operating with Microsoft Windows 7 on a "netbook" computer.

Quartics' MCP is a unique chip, based on the company's proprietary QVU(tm) architecture, that brings unparalleled video performance with dramatically reduced CPU loading. It is a fully programmable HD encode, decode and transcode semiconductor solution and provides superior HD video processing performance, programmability, and power savings, all on a single platform. The MCP supports all codec standards including H264, MPEG2/4, VC-1, Flash, RealPlayer(r), etc., and is designed to provide maximum performance to all computers, even those with low power GPUs, and CPUs. Most importantly, the MCP allows consumer to enjoy internet video and HD content with remarkable clarity from any source on their laptop and netbook computers.

"We are delighted to be recognized during such an important industry event," said Safi Qureshey, chairman of Quartics. "We have worked closely with Microsoft for a number of months to ensure that our chip integrates seamlessly into Windows 7. We are thrilled to be one of the first SHED components. We believe that our solution, when coupled with Windows 7 and XP, will bring unparalleled HD video quality to a variety of devices such as netbooks, desktops and laptops. This compatibility will help to ensure that PC OEMS, ODMs and software providers will be able to easily integrate our device into their commercial offerings."

WinHEC is the key industry event for hardware engineers, system manufacturers, and driver developers who design and build PCs, servers, and devices that run and interface with Microsoft Windows operating systems. Now in its 17th year, WinHEC brings industry professionals together to partner with Microsoft in driving future engineering and business directions for PC and device hardware. WinHEC is the only Microsoft conference focused on Microsoft's vision for Windows and the future of PC computing, Microsoft directions and industry partnerships for long-term initiatives, and hardware implementation directions for OEMs, ODMs, device engineers, and system builders.
