U-Haul Invites You to Join in Paying Tribute to Real Life Heroes, Past and Present At the 2008 'Legacy of Honor' New York City Veterans Day Parade

NEW YORK, Nov. 10, 2008 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Join U-Haul on Tuesday, November 11th in paying tribute to and supporting our nation's heroes. U-Haul is the title sponsor of the "Legacy of Honor" Veterans Day Parade in New York City this year, which honors veterans of all eras. The theme "Legacy of Honor" is meant to recognize veterans and also serves as a welcome home for the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum. The U.S.S. Intrepid is herself a veteran of World War II, Korea and Vietnam, and has been restored and returned home, where she remains an honored New York City icon. Veterans Day 2008 showcases two "Legacy of Honor" parade celebrations. The annual Veterans Day parade will begin at 11 a.m., making its way up 5th Avenue beginning at 23rd St. to 25th St. At 12:30 p.m., an additional parade will begin from the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, starting on 42nd St., with the line of march going from 12th Avenue to 5th Avenue to join the main Veterans Day parade.

As the lead entry in the parade, U-Haul will be honoring veterans and celebrating the "Legacy of Honor," and distributing flags and military dog tags to spectators along the parade route. Also in the parade will be our Commemorative SuperGraphic trucks, which pay homage to the five branches of our military -- Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force and Coast Guard. In addition to the five trucks, U-Haul also will have on display the U-Haul Freedom Float, which will be host to New York City's very own United We Sing Troupe, which will sing patriotic songs.

"For the fifth year in a row, we are privileged to be the title sponsor of the 2008 'Legacy of Honor' Veterans Day Parade," stated U-Haul President John "J.T." Taylor. "U-Haul has supported our military personnel since 1945 and has given a high priority to veterans in our recruiting process. U-Haul simply wants to give back to the veterans who have sacrificed so much for our freedom."

"On behalf of all veterans throughout the country, we salute U-Haul International for honoring our military men and women past and present," stated Patrick Gualtieri, parade chairman, United War Veterans Council. "U-Haul has been a tremendous supporter, assisting with any needs we have."

U-Haul is also a sponsor of the Thank You for Serving video project headed by the United War Veterans Council. The project involves creating a video along with message boards with words of support, love and encouragement to be sent to each military base throughout the world. During the parade, U-Haul encourages participants and spectators to take the time to sign the Thank You for Serving boards and to send messages of encouragement to those serving overseas.
