LOS ANGELES, Nov. 10, 2008 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Sandra Evers-Manly, Northrop Grumman Corporation's (NYSE:NOC) vice president of Corporate Responsibility and president of Northrop Grumman Foundation, was honored by the Brotherhood Crusade with the Walter Bremond Pioneer of African American Achievement Award for her leadership in the community.

At Northrop Grumman, Evers-Manly leads corporate-wide equal employment opportunity, ethics, charitable giving, community relations and employee recognition programs. She helped establish and subsequently build the Northrop Grumman Foundation, which is committed to supporting diverse and sustainable programs that create innovative education opportunities. She has greatly enhanced the company's corporate profile and citizenship by supporting the differing needs in the many communities in which the company's employees live and work. For the past 15 years, she has hosted the company's annual grant giving reception, which honors more than 300 non-profits in Southern California. In 2006, she started the Northrop Grumman's Women's Conference.
Her community activities include involvement in the non-profit organization she founded, the Black Hollywood Education and Resource Center, which hosts films and educational training programs. For 12 years, she was the president of the Beverly Hills/Hollywood NAACP. She is a former member of the California Commission on the Status of African American Males and provided testimony to the California State Assembly, the Congressional Black Caucus and the U.S. Civil Rights commission on the images and status of African Americans in the media. For the past three years, she has hosted a Mother's Day luncheon to help comfort mothers who lost their children to gang violence and women impacted by domestic violence.
Evers-Manly was honored at the organization's annual fundraiser, which funds over 60 Los Angeles-area agencies as well as Brotherhood Crusade programs and events. The programs educate and empower low- and middle-income families and youth through personal development, vocational training and fiscal responsibility.
Past Walter Bremond African American Achievement recipients include Earvin "Magic" Johnson, Stevie Wonder, Berry Gordy, Cathy Hughes, Spike Lee, Rosa Parks, Don King, Tavis Smiley, Congresswoman Maxine Waters and Muhammad Ali.
