Wall Street Journal Appoints Distinguished Journalist as Deputy Editor-In-Chief


NEW YORK, Nov. 12, 2008 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Wall Street Journal announced today that Gerard Baker has been appointed deputy editor-in-chief of The Wall Street Journal and Dow Jones, effective January 2009. Mr. Baker will be based in New York and will report to Robert Thomson, editor-in-chief of Dow Jones and managing editor of The Wall Street Journal.

Mr. Baker will assist in overseeing the transition of The Wall Street Journal, WSJ.com and Dow Jones Newswires.

Mr. Baker is currently based in Washington as U.S. editor and assistant editor of The Times of London. During his tenure with The Times, he oversaw the development of the paper's U.S. edition and its American website. From 1988 to 1994, Mr. Baker worked at the BBC, initially as a producer in London and New York, and then as economics correspondent. In 1994, he joined the Financial Times, where he was Tokyo correspondent, U.S. economics correspondent, and Washington bureau chief and associate editor.

Mr. Baker received a First Class Honours degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from Corpus Christi College at Oxford University.
