Solar Power Technology Group Successful in Two Categories

SolarWorld AG will receive the German sustainability award. With the prize
for 'Germany’s Most Sustainable Production' and the nomination as
'Germany’s Most Sustainable Brand' the solar power technology group will be
the only company to receive an award in two categories simultaneously. The
award will be under the patronage of the President of the Federal Republic
of Germany, Horst Köhler, and will be officially presented on the German
Sustainability Day on 5 December 2008. In awarding the prize the jury paid
tribute to SolarWorld AG’s consistent focus on sustainable products,
sustainable production and sustainable commitment.

Frank H. Asbeck, Chairman and CEO of SolarWorld AG: 'Sustainability is the
very core of our business model. With our products we enable people
worldwide to lastingly generate clean power'. The concept of sustainability
is continued in the company’s approach to entrepreneurial action. 'Quite
deliberately we rely on integrated production and concentrate on high-tech
locations with the highest environmental and social standards', says
Asbeck. Add to this the company’s commitment to sustainability, for example
in supporting development aid projects in Africa that are equipped with
solar power technology thus making reliable energy supply possible for the
first time even in remote regions.

The sustainability prize is awarded to companies and brands that combine
economic success with social responsibility and environmental protection in
an exemplary fashion. All in all, 350 companies participated in the
competition – among them half the DAX 30 companies. The organizers include
the Council for Sustainable Development, the Potsdam Institute for Climate
Assessment Research and the Wuppertal Institute. The jury was made up of 15
experts, among them the former Director of the UN Environmental Program and
Federal Minister of the Environment, Prof. Klaus Töpfer, the Head of the
Potsdam Institute, Prof. H. J. Schellnhuber, and the Head of the Council
for Sustainable Development, Dr. Volker Hauff. For further information
