IIJ Group to Start High-Speed Mobile Data Communications Services for Its Consumer Internet Services 'IIJmio' and 'hi-ho'

TOKYO, Dec. 1, 2008 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Internet Initiative Japan Inc. (IIJ) (Nasdaq:IIJI) (TSE1:3774), one of Japan's leading Internet access and comprehensive network solutions providers, and hi-ho Inc. (hi-ho, a consolidated subsidiary of IIJ), an Internet service provider for home users, today introduced a high-speed 7.2 Mbps mobile data communications service. This service, which utilizes a 3G/HSDPA(1) network, will be offered for their "IIJmio high-speed mobile/EM Service" and "hi-ho Mobile Course - EM7.2" services.

Both of these new services will be provided together with an Internet connection and data communications terminal. By utilizing EMOBILE terminal rented from IIJ or hi-ho, users of both these services will be able to enjoy a high-speed mobile data communications environment at an affordable price.

IIJ entered the mobile data communications market in January 2008 as an MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator), offering its "IIJ Mobile" service to business customers. This new service is built on the quality, stability and practical know-how acquired while operating the IIJ Mobile service. These new services provide high-speed mobile data communications to the consumer customers, with a high-quality mobile environment to users at an affordable price.

The IIJ Group will continue to improve user convenience through the expansion of its mobile services.

 1. HSDPA (High-Speed Downlink Packet Access):
This technology dramatically improves downlink speeds to meet
customer demands for higher packet communications speeds, and it
was standardized by the 3GPP as an advanced W-CDMA. Using this
scheme, downlink speeds of up to 14 Mbps are possible.
