mPhase Technologies Signs Contract With Porsche Design Studio

Major Step in Developing AlwaysReady Emergency Flashlight With Manually Activated Lithium Reserve Battery

LITTLE FALLS, N.J., Dec. 12, 2008 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- mPhase Technologies, Inc. (OTCBB:XDSL) today announced that it has signed a contract with the Porsche Design Studio, in Zell am See, Austria. It includes that the studio will design a premium version of the AlwaysReady Emergency Flashlight. The flashlight will contain mPhase's proprietary lithium reserve battery that offers potentially infinite shelf-life. In this type of battery, a breakable barrier separates the solid electrodes from the liquid electrolyte until the battery is manually activated. Unlike traditional batteries, mPhase battery remains in an inert state with no leakage or self-discharge until activation.

The mPhase/AlwaysReady lithium reserve battery will serve as backup to a conventional primary battery and is designed to power the emergency flashlight continuously for up to two hours if the main power source should die in storage or fail during use. The mPhase/AlwaysReady battery has a shelf-life specification of 20 years and is manually activated using a trigger mechanism. The premium flashlight will be marketed as an accessory for automobile roadside emergency kits that can be stored long term. The ability to always provide light in the event of an emergency will provide the security and comfort that is not possible with a conventional battery.

Said mPhase CEO Ron Durando: "We are thrilled to be working with the prestigious Porsche Design Studio to create the basic design for a premium emergency flashlight incorporating our lithium reserve battery. This is a major step forward for mPhase in the commercialization of our battery technology and we look forward to developing a new premium product for automotive applications as quickly as possible."

In addition to its lithium reserve battery with a breakable barrier, mPhase/AlwaysReady is currently developing another lithium reserve battery product referred to as its Smart Nanobattery, with its proprietary superhydrophobic and electrowettable membrane being used in the multi-cell micro-array reserve battery designed for a U.S. Army computer memory backup application.
