ATMI Supply Chain Management Practices Cited by International Association for Innovation and Distinction in Serving Customers in Annual Award

DANBURY, Conn., Dec. 17, 2008 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- ATMI, Inc. (Nasdaq:ATMI) today announced that it has been cited for innovation and "organizational excellence" in its supply chain management operations and recognized for best practices honors by the Institute for Supply Management (ISM), the world's largest association devoted to the field.

ATMI is one of only six companies to be named a winner of the 2008 Excellence in Innovative Supply Management (EISM) Award, which is administered by ISM's Southwest Forum. The organization judges whether companies have created and implemented purchasing and supply management operations that meet the profession's highest standards.

Inaugurated in 2003, the EISM program was established "to recognize and reward organizational excellence in the purchasing and supply management field." In addition to honoring innovation, the award establishes publicly available benchmarks against which other companies in all industries may use to model their own purchasing and supply management practices. Past EISM winners include Advanced Micro Devices, the American Heart Association, J.C. Penney, and Sandia National Labs.

"Our purchasing and supply management teams leverage cross-functional expertise to add value for our customers," said Doug Neugold, Chief Executive Officer of ATMI. "We work closely with our customers in a range of areas, and we put a high premium on continuously improving our processes. In doing so, we provide access to the best answers about supplies, prices, and timing, and any of the hundreds of issues that go into strategic supply chain management. We're honored how the EISM award showcases our success in developing efficient and effective solutions for our customers."

Greg Jewell, who manages the ATMI Supply Management group, accepted the 2008 EISM award on behalf of the company at this year's Southwest Supply Management Conference in Dallas. ISM defines supply management as the identification, acquisition, access, positioning, and management of resources and related capabilities the organization needs or potentially needs in the attainment of its strategic objectives. Successful management of the function directly benefits organizations by improving their bottom line, increasing productivity and enhancing customer relations.
