LINTHICUM, Md., Dec. 18, 2008 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Thanks to the generosity of Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) employees, more than 31,000 cans of food were recently donated to Food Link, Inc., an Anne Arundel County food bank, as part of the company's annual holiday charitable giving programs for those less fortunate individuals in the local community.
For the past several years, the company's Linthicum-based Hardware Engineering organization has sponsored a friendly interdepartmental competition to encourage employee support for the food drive. This year, the engineering organization more than tripled last year's efforts by collecting more than 12 tons of canned goods.
"We far exceeded our goal this year," said David Corrigan, director of Hardware Engineering at Northrop Grumman's Electronic Systems sector. "We were all pleased to be able to connect to the community in a way that would enable us to provide a warm meal for others."

Food Link, Inc. is a nonprofit organization in Anne Arundel County dedicated to supporting a wide range of people by providing immediate food assistance and other essentials in times of need.
