MCLEAN, Va., Dec. 24, 2008 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) employees throughout the Northern Virginia area collected approximately 1,200 toys for underprivileged children in the nation's capital by participating in the 2008 Toys for Tots program.

Northrop Grumman employees throughout the Washington, D.C., area collected toys at over 20 locations throughout the 2008 holiday season. This is the third year that the company has participated in Toys for Tots in the capital area.

Through the Toys for Tots program, Marine Corps Reserve volunteers collect new, unwrapped toys during the last three months of the year to distribute to children who would otherwise not receive presents during the holiday season. The program was founded by Col. William Hendricks, USMCR (Ret.) in 1947 and was so successful in its first year that it was adopted by the Marine Corps the following year and expanded into a nationwide campaign. Since its inception, Toys for Tots has allowed Marines to distribute more than 370 million toys to more than 173 million children in need.
