Publication of change in the total number of shares and votes in Swedbank

Due to the rights issue of preference shares in Swedbank AB (publ) (“Swedbank”),
the total number of shares and votes in Swedbank as per 30 December 2008 amounts
to 710,358,868. Of the total number of shares in Swedbank, 515,373,412 are
ordinary shares and 194,985,456 are preference shares. The remaining part of the
rights issue is expected to be completed during January 2009 and thus result in
a change in the total number of shares and votes in Swedbank in January 2009. 

Swedbank discloses the information provided herein pursuant to the Swedish
