A Life Journey Worth Taking -- Author Ed Jones Shares His Life From Outhouse to Outer Space

PUYALLUP, Wash., Jan. 9, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Life's journey is not always easy. With a positive attitude and firm belief in the Lord, everything just becomes a challenge worth taking. This is what author Ed D. Jones learned through his own journey. He faced it, accepted it, survived it, and came out as a stronger person than before. He never gave up. He just kept on trying. And that's how he was able to move From Outhouse to Outer Space. As he shares this photo-journal biography, he hopes you'll find something interesting that's worth following.

Author Ed Jones opens his door, and as you enter his life, be ready to witness an amazing series of scenes that will surely capture your heart. When he was young, his family looked forward to an exciting future. But with his father's tragic and untimely death, their struggle began. His mother remarried a man who turned out to be a child molester and an abusing alcoholic. When Ed confronted him, he kicked him out of the house before his tenth birthday. He learned to take care of himself; he traveled through Arizona, Texas, and New Mexico by freight train or car -- to find a relative or his mother. Along the way, there were wonderful people who helped him. He finally found his mother and lived with her while completing his high school education. WWII began in his senior year; after graduating, he joined the Merchant Marine, where he saw a bit of action. Their ship was sunk by the enemy, and they were taken prisoner by the Japanese. They escaped and spent sixty-five days on a raft before being rescued by the U.S. Navy. He tried to join the U.S. Army, but was rejected twice before he was finally accepted and inducted as a foot soldier. He signed up to go to Europe by agreeing to serve three years. His tour of duty in Europe was not only exciting but sad and scary at times. There, he learned to speak the German language, worked different odd jobs, and preached at a German Church. When he returned to the United States, he went home and found out that most jobs were already taken. His sister invited him to Los Angeles, where there would be a better chance for him of getting a job. He worked as a Service Station Attendant, then worked at The United Parcel Service. After that, he went to work for Williams Trucking, where the Supervisor of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory approached him and offered him a job. He took it and eventually ended up working in the Hydro Lab, where he helped develop and assemble the test motor for the Moon landing module. He was able to work on different projects for the space program, as well.
