About the Photographer
Tony Owen (a.k.a. Towen) started taking pictures as a teenager in high school. He considers his mother, screen and TV actress Donna Reed, to be his main source of encouragement to pursue his photography. On one occasion, he remembers saying to his mother "that perhaps he should STOP taking pictures; that he seemed to have lost his 'eye.'" Her response was "to keep shooting. That's the only way to become even better." Obviously he followed her advice. It wasn't until getting his first 35mm camera at the age of twenty-eight (or so) that his photographic skills and development really started. It was the format of a 35mm camera which allowed him to explore more of the natural world around him in greater depth. The author is basically self-taught, with no formal photography courses. He has been guided and taught by a variety of people, some of those being owners and staff of the different camera stores and labs where he has worked for the past thirty years.
