WOODLAND HILLS, Calif., Feb. 2, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation's (NYSE:NOC) LN-270 inertial navigator, a pointing-locating-navigating system, has been selected to support upgrades of additional U.S. Army AN/TPQ-48(V)2s (Lightweight Counter Mortar Radar) under a contract for LN-270 inertial navigation systems and non-recurring engineering from SRCTec, Inc.
AN/TPQ-48(V)2 is a man-portable ground radar that autonomously detects the firing positions of short range mortars and predicts the area the ordnance will impact. The LN-270 units will provide enhanced capability to the AN/TPQ-48(V)2 to aid in locating hostile indirect fire.

The Global Positioning System (GPS) in the LN-270 provides very precise pointing information to the radar system. The LN-270 was selected for the AN/TPQ-48(V)2 based on its high accuracy, selective availability/anti-spoofing module-compliant GPS, low power consumption, and lightweight design.
