The oneworld global airline alliance is celebrating its tenth anniversary. The anniversary will be prominent on the sides of two Finnair Airbus and one Embraer aircraft, on which oneworld logos have been painted. “Membership of the oneworld alliance has brought huge advantages to Finnair customers, because it means that Finnair is able to offer a route and service network to some 700 destinations as well as frequent flyer benefits for all oneworld airline flights,” says Finnair SVP Communications Christer Haglund. Finnair became a oneworld member in September 1999. Alliance membership has grown from the five founder companies to the current 10 members as well as their nearly 20 subsidiary airlines. Later this year, the Mexican airline Mexicana and its subsidiary Click Mexicana will join the alliance. oneworld is the first airline alliance to provide a service, via its website www.oneworld.com, enabling customers to book and purchase round-the-world tickets for routings that include more than one member airline. The booking engine opened in December 2008. oneworld airlines carried 330 million passengers last year. The alliance members are currently Finnair, American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Iberia, Japan Airlines, LAN, Malév Hungarian Airlines, Qantas and Royal Jordanian as well as around 20 subsidiaries, including American Eagle, Dragonair, LAN Argentina, LAN Ecuador and LAN Peru.
