Microsemi Introduces World's Smallest WiFi Power Amplifier With Integrated 50 Ohms Input and Output Matching

Microsemi's LX5516 802.11b/g/n Power Amplifier Cuts Cost, Board Size and Design Complexity

IRVINE, Calif., Feb. 4, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Microsemi Corporation (Nasdaq:MSCC), a leading manufacturer of high performance analog/mixed signal integrated circuits and high reliability semiconductors, today announced the world's smallest wireless LAN power amplifier (PA). The 2x2mm LX5516 features integrated 50 Ohm input and output matching circuits that optimize performance while significantly reducing design complexity, solution size and bill of materials costs.

Microsemi's LX5516 supports IEEE 802.11b/g/n WLAN applications in the 2.4-2.5GHz frequency range, and further extends the company's broad portfolio of WiFi and 802.16e WiMAX and WiBro PAs. All LX5516 circuitry is packaged in an ultra-compact, 2x2mm 12-lead MLP that eliminates the cost and complexity of external components otherwise required for input and output matching functionality.

"Our new LX5516 PA eliminates the external passive components and additional design work typically required to optimally tune the transmit section of an 802.11/b/g/n design," said Kang Hee Kim, RF product line manager at Microsemi's Analog Mixed Signal Group. "By simplifying their design complexity in our ultra-compact package, we enable designers to dramatically cut product size, cost and time to market. The LX5516 is ideal for OEMs and module manufacturers designing portable and mobile devices with challenging size constraints."
