The Ship -- A Story of Officers and Men

BOULDER, Colo., Feb. 5, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Written by a veteran of World War II who served aboard a Landing Ship Tank (LST), The Ship tells the story of the coming together of ninety-day wonder college boys commissioned in the U.S. Navy with a mustang commissioned from the ranks to be its captain with regular navy sailors and draftees from the farms and cities to serve their country. Author Stanley Yokell writes a gripping account of friendship and adventure.

In a time of war, fought by an all-volunteer professional army in which little sacrifice is asked for the people on the home front, this book is a necessary reminder of the time when the whole country mobilized in the defense of freedom.

Author Stanley Yokell presents an up-close picture of the relationships between officers and men, and between the officers and each other and the ranks with each other.

Beginning with the news of the Japanese assault on Pearl Harbor and ending with the occupation of Japan, this must-read volume presents a vignette of history that historians seldom write about.

Well-written and captivating, let The Ship give you a glimpse of the world of men in uniform. Let each page entertain and inspire you.

About the Author

Stanley Yokell is the author of two technical books - "A Working Guide to Shell-and-Tube Heat Exchangers," McGraw-Hill, New York, 1990 and with his colleague Carl F. Andreone, "Tubular Heat Exchanger Inspection, Maintenance and Repair," McGraw-Hill, New York, 1997. He has written many technical papers in connection with his work as a consultant on tubular heat transfer equipment.

In 2007 his books, "The Ship" and "The Ride" were published. The Ship describes the transition from civilian life to life aboard an LST that fought in the Pacific during WWII. The Ride is about a solo coast-to-coast bicycle trip he took to celebrate his 59th birthday.

His book Dog Stories, that Xlibris is currently about to publish, stems from his lifelong love of animals and dogs in particular. He often says that he speaks dog.

These delightful stories should appeal to anyone who has ever had a canine friend
