Saigon National Bank Reports Results of Operations


WESTMINSTER, Calif., Feb. 11, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Saigon National Bank (OTCBB:SAGN) announced that the unaudited results of operations for the three and twelve months ending December 31, 2008 were a net loss of $801,000 or $0.57 per share and $1,850,000 or $1.31 per share respectively. John J. Kennedy, President and Chief Executive Officer, stated, "Increased lending activity and consequently a higher provision for loan losses and reductions in net interest margins contributed to the increased loss from a year earlier. Net loans outstanding increased $26.9 million and total deposits increased $28.7 million during the year ended December 31, 2008." In 2008, the bank provided $710,000 to the reserve for loan losses. Operating losses were $1,141,000 for the period ending December, 31, 2008 versus $799,000 for the year earlier period excluding the provision for loan losses.

Total assets were $66.5 million at December 31, 2008 compared to $37.7 million at December 31, 2007 an increase of 76.1% year to year. At December 31, 2008 the loan portfolio totaled $49.5 million an increase of 119% over year end 2007 and deposits totaled $55.6 million an increase of 107% over year end 2007.

The Bank's net interest income for the three months ended December 31, 2008 was $207,000 and $1,510,000 for the twelve months ended December 31, 2008. Average interest-earning assets were $58.4 million and $32.0 million with average interest-bearing liabilities of $50.6 million and $33.9 million for the three months and year ended December 31, 2008, yielding a net interest margin of 1.42% and 2.60% for the three and twelve months ended December 31, 2008, respectively. General and administrative expenses were $643,000 and $2,433,000 for the three and twelve months ended December 31, 2008, respectively. The largest component of general and administrative expenses was salary and benefits expense of $281,000 and $959,000 for the three and twelve months ended December 31, 2008, respectively.
