WASHINGTON, Feb. 18, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) has appointed Scott Stabler vice president of supply chain management for the company's Shipbuilding sector. Stabler will provide sector-wide leadership, coordination and direction to all supply chain management functions, including sourcing and procurement, logistics and inventory control, and material operations in support of all the sector's contracts and clients throughout the design, construction, operation, overhaul and repair of naval vessels. Stabler reports to Mike Petters, corporate vice president and president of Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding.

Stabler previously served as vice president for the CVN 77 program at the company's former Newport News sector. Named to this position in 2001, he was responsible for the program management and construction of the final Nimitz-class aircraft carrier, USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77).
Stabler joined the company in 1984 in carrier construction engineering. He has held progressively responsible positions in purchasing, as executive assistant to the president and chief executive officer, in life cycle engineering and in business development. He then led capture program efforts for LPD17 and arsenal ship programs and served as program director, aircraft carrier construction. He was appointed vice president, assembly, in Sept. 1999 and vice president, aircraft carrier construction, in Sept. 2000.
Stabler earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from North Carolina State University and a master's degree in business administration from the College of William and Mary.
