The Pitfalls of Unbridled Capitalism -- New book Proposes a Biological Paradigm to Modify Economic Theories

NORTH READING, Mass., March 2, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Decades ago, the scientist James Lovelock gave the revolutionary theory that planet Earth was a super-organism, with parts that worked together for the greater whole. He called this the Gaia Hypothesis. Now, in this age of recession and economic uncertainty, can insights from this paradigm give us an alternative to classic capitalist theory? Know more about a novel approach to unravel the intertwined workings of society, state, and economy in The Social Gaia.

Is it time to replace Adam Smith's doctrine of the invisible hand to an organic view that sees economies almost as super-organisms? Unbridled capitalism has failed spectacularly to provide continuous prosperity in our modern society. We are now in danger of the common knee-jerk reaction by politicians to increase regulation and government spending to counter this.

The Social Gaia: The little blue book for new capitalism offers alternative practical proposals to the one-dimensional practices of libertarianism and authoritarianism. It borrows from the natural regulatory processes by which planet Earth (Gaia) maintains control over most environmental parameters.

Improved efficiencies and controls in politics, the law, national security, finance, healthcare, education and industry are explored, together with a proposal to reduce involvement in our daily lives by attorneys and government. After all, there are no attorneys for the laws of nature.
