NASDAQ OMX Announces February 2009 Market Performance Statistics for U.S. and Nordic Exchanges




   Matched Trading On All NASDAQ OMX Exchanges in February Rose by
                 Thirty Five Percent Over Year Ago

    The NASDAQ Stock Market's Matched Market Share of U.S. Equity
    Volume Surpassed All Other U.S. Exchanges for the Twenty Third
                           Straight Month

NEW YORK, March 24, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The NASDAQ OMX Group, Inc.(sm) (Nasdaq:NDAQ) today announced consolidated market performance statistics for its U.S. and Nordic exchanges for the month of February 2009.

Business Highlights



  --  The average daily number of matched trades executed on all
      NASDAQ OMX exchanges during February 2009 increased 35% over
      the same month last year.
      -  The average daily value traded on NASDAQ OMX exchanges
         increased 3% over the previous month.

  --  The NASDAQ Stock Market's (NASDAQ(r)) matched share of U.S.
      equity volume in February 2009 was 25.7%, more than any other
      U.S. exchange for the twenty-third consecutive month.
      -  The average daily matched volume in all U.S. securities last
         month increased 10% over January 2009.
      -  The average daily matched trade count in U.S. equities was
         13.2 million, an increase of 9% over January 2009.

  --  NASDAQ's average daily matched trade count in NYSE-listed
      securities last month was 6.7 million, a 55% increase over
      February 2008.
      -  The average daily matched volume in NYSE-listed stocks
         increased 8% over January 2009 and 50% over the same period
         one year ago.
      -  NASDAQ's total matched volume in NYSE-listed securities
         during February 2009 was 22.5 billion shares, compared with
         21.9 billion shares in January 2009.

   --  The average daily matched trade count in NASDAQ-listed
       securities last month was 3.8 million, an 8% gain over
       January 2009.
       -  The average daily value of matched trading in
          NASDAQ-listed securities was $17 billion during February
          2009, a 5% increase over the previous month.
       -  NASDAQ's average daily matched share volume in
          NASDAQ-listed securities during February was 902 million
          shares, a 10% increase over January 2009.

  --  NASDAQ's average daily trade count in U.S. ETFs last month
      was 2.7 million, a 185% increase over February 2008 and a
      20% gain over the previous month.
      -  Average daily matched share volume of U.S. ETFs in February
         was more than any other U.S. exchange, increasing 89% over
         the same period one year ago.

Equities Trading

The average daily number of matched trades executed on NASDAQ OMX exchanges totaled 13.4 million in February 2009, a 35% increase over February 2008 and a 9% increase over the previous month. The average daily value traded on NASDAQ OMX exchanges totaled US$72.4 billion (EUR56.5 billion) in February 2009, a 3% increase from January 2009.

NASDAQ's matched share of U.S. equity volume during February 2009 was more than any other U.S. exchange for the twenty-third consecutive month at 25.7%. NASDAQ's average daily matched volume in all U.S. securities was 2.8 billion shares in February 2009, a 10% increase over January 2009. NASDAQ's total matched volume in U.S. equities in February was 53.5 billion shares. The NASDAQ Stock Market's average daily matched trade count in U.S. equities in February 2009 was 13.2 million, an increase of 9% over the previous month.

NASDAQ's average daily matched trade count in NYSE-listed securities last month was 6.7 million, a 7% increase over January 2009. NASDAQ's average daily matched volume in NYSE-listed stocks was 1.2 billion shares in February, an 8% increase over the previous month and a 50% gain compared with the same period last year. NASDAQ's total matched volume in NYSE-listed securities in February 2009 was 22.5 billion shares compared with 21.9 billion the previous month. NASDAQ's matched market share in NYSE-listed securities last month was 19.0%.

The average daily matched trade count in NASDAQ-listed securities last month was 3.8 million, an 8% gain over January 2009. The average daily value of matched trading in NASDAQ-listed securities was $17 billion during February 2009, a 5% increase over the previous month. The average daily matched share volume in NASDAQ-listed securities in February was 902 million shares, a 10% increase over the previous month.

NASDAQ OMX BX's average daily matched volume in all U.S. securities was 12 million shares in February 2009, a 329% increase over January 2009. NASDAQ OMX BX's total matched volume in U.S. equities in February was 222 million shares. NASDAQ OMX BX is a new trading platform that provides a second quote for U.S. cash equities.

During February, 16% of NASDAQ's matched volume resulted from non-displayed orders, adding 8.6 billion shares of dark liquidity to the NASDAQ book.

On all the Nordic and Baltic Markets, the average daily number of trades was 211.3 thousand during February 2009. The average daily value traded was $2.9 billion (EUR2.3 billion).

Exchange Traded Fund (ETF) Trading

NASDAQ's average daily trade count in U.S. ETFs last month was 2.7 million, a 185% increase over February 2008 and a 20% gain over the previous month. NASDAQ's average daily matched share volume of U.S. ETFs in February 2009 was 768 million shares, more than any other U.S. exchange, a gain of 89% over the same period last year.

Derivatives Trading

The average daily matched volume of NASDAQ OMX exchanges in U.S. equity options totaled 2.5 million contracts in February 2009. NASDAQ OMX exchanges' matched market share of U.S. equities options was 19.8% last month, compared with 14.8% in February 2008.

The average daily volume in all equity and fixed-income derivative products traded on the Nordic Exchanges totaled 333.7 thousand contracts in February 2009. The average daily trading volume in share products, index products and fixed income products changed -16%, 1%, and -59%, respectively, compared with February 2008.

An additional 140.2 thousand Nordic equity derivative contracts traded on the EDX derivatives exchange on an average daily basis during February 2009, a 12% decrease from 159.4 thousand contracts in February 2008.

Bond Trading

The average daily value traded in fixed income securities on NASDAQ OMX exchanges in the Nordic and Baltic region during February 2009 totaled US$71 million (EUR56 million).
