BALTIMORE, March 31, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) has appointed Patricia A. Newby vice president of Weapons and Sensors for its Land Forces Division, effective immediately. The Land Forces Division is a component of the company's Baltimore-based Electronic Systems sector.

In her new position, Newby will have executive responsibility for the development, deployment and customer interface of all weapons and sensors programs at Land Forces Division locations in Baltimore and Huntsville, Ala.

Newby joined the company in 1975 and over the years has held numerous positions of increasing responsibility in engineering, program and site management. In 2004, Newby was appointed president of Xetron, a Cincinnati-based defense communications unit of Northrop Grumman, with responsibility for all program activities and business growth strategies. She most recently served as director of airborne warning systems, responsible for the sector's AWACS and E-2D airborne warning and control sensor program activities.

Newby earned her bachelor's degree in computer science and a master's degree in management from Loyola University in Maryland. She has completed the Northrop Grumman Financial Management Program at Wharton Business School, the General Manager's Program at the Harvard Business School and the African-American Leadership Institute program at UCLA. Newby serves on the Board of Directors of the Coppin State University Development Foundation and is a liaison to the Board of Directors of the National Action Council for Minorities in Engineering.
