Compuware Covisint Simplifies and Streamlines Healthcare Collaboration Across Michigan by Linking Health Plans Together

Michigan Association of Health Plans to Improve Information Sharing Between Member Plans Covering Millions of Michigan Residents

CHICAGO, April 6, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Compuware Corporation (Nasdaq:CPWR) today announced at HIMSS 09 (booth 8027) that its Covisint subsidiary has partnered with Michigan Association of Health Plans (M.A.H.P.) to improve collaboration between physicians and healthcare plans. The program, called M.A.H.P. Administrative Simplification Solution, will streamline communication and improve the day-to-day workflows between Michigan health plans and physicians. It also will promote easy, quick and secure interaction with other health information exchanges and hospitals throughout the state.

Covisint recently announced that it has "connected the docs" across the entire state of Michigan, including approximately 21,000 physicians. With M.A.H.P., Covisint has taken next logical step by securely connecting health plans statewide. Covisint has now squarely and uniquely positioned itself to connect all health information exchanges (HIEs) throughout Michigan and, eventually, other states.

M.A.H.P. is an industry voice for 17 health care plans, covering 2.1 million residents representing every county in Michigan and 45 businesses in the state. It facilitates communication among members, government and the healthcare industry. In today's world, physicians must log in to several locations using a different username and password to accomplish the same basic administrative tasks. The current workflow is both time consuming and inefficient while adding little to no benefit to either the health plan or the physicians with whom they work.

"M.A.H.P. has many members using many technologies statewide, and we needed a way to bring all of these systems together -- quickly, securely and cost-effectively," said Rick Murdock, Executive Director, Michigan Association of Health Plans. "Covisint has the gravitas to deliver on our technology needs today, and the vision to navigate through the complexity and adjust as our business needs change tomorrow."

Covisint's single sign-on platform replaces multiple, previously existing and dissimilar systems. Now, M.A.H.P. member health plans and their provider networks will enjoy the functionality they had with their previous systems, but they'll also need only to securely log in once to a single, familiar environment to do their work. Additionally, as M.A.H.P.'s needs and the needs of member health plans grow, the Covisint platform will grow with them since increased functionality is easily added.

"Covisint's on-demand healthcare platform makes M.A.H.P. more effective, responsive and adaptive to members' needs," said Brett Furst, Covisint Vice President of Healthcare. "It also means a better experience for patients and improved relations between healthcare providers and insurance organizations throughout Michigan. Payers coming together like this -- similar to how physicians also have with Covisint -- is a powerful testament to Michigan's healthcare interoperability leadership and a model for other states to follow."

Some of Covisint's previous announcements involving "connecting Michigan's docs" include the October 20, 2008, news release titled "Michigan State Medical Society Leverages Compuware Covisint to Establish Nation's First Statewide Physician Network," as well as the October 7, 2008, my1HIE news release titled "Michigan Physicians, Patient Information Converge to Establish a Health Information Exchange Powered by Compuware Covisint."

Covisint's on-demand collaboration platform and cloud computing approach helps virtual communities securely access, use and share time sensitive information. Covisint solves business problems by streamlining and automating processes globally--connecting state and nationally based communities, organizations and systems in the healthcare, automotive and financial services industries, as well as the public sector.
