National and Local Experts in Occupational Health Nursing Headline AAOHN 2009 Symposium and Expo in Orlando


ATLANTA, April 13, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The American Association of Occupational Health Nurses, Inc. (AAOHN), www.aaohn.org, is hosting the country's leading health and safety industry experts at AAOHN's upcoming Symposium & Expo in Orlando, Fla. The list of presenters includes some of Florida's leading professionals and will cover the latest issues important to occupational health nurses (OHNs), employee health nurses and wellness professionals.

AAOHN's 2009 Symposium and Expo opens and closes with keynotes by nationally known speakers. Wendy D. Lynch, PhD, national healthcare cost expert, executive director of the Health as Human Capital Foundation and vice president of strategic development at the Human Capital Management Services Group, opens the Symposium with her keynote entitled, "First Make It Matter: Aligning Incentives for Optimal Human Capital Performance." Kathleen D. Pagana, PhD, RN, will address the challenges in today's nursing profession during her closing keynote entitled "The Pursuit of Happiness: Using Momentum to Reach Personal & Professional Goals."

Orlando's Raquel C. Malo, MS, RD, LD/N, senior vice president of executive training and director of nutrition for the Human Performance Institute(tm), will lead an all-day "Energy for Performance" session. Malo has worked with Fortune 500 companies on energy management and nutrition-related issues. Her program will offer practical ways to develop personal well-being and empowerment to maximize both work and personal performance and productivity.

Dr. Isabel Perry, another Orlando resident, and President of TheSafetyDoctor.com, Inc. is an expert in health and safety training. She will address reducing workplace accidents during her seminar entitled "Seven Sins of Safety: Curing Bad Behaviors That Are Accident Predictors." Dr. Perry is a noted speaker whose highly interactive presentations keep attendees on the edge of their seats.

Arlene Guzik, DNP, ARNP-BC, COHN-S, FAAOHN, Director of Clinical Services for Lakeside Occupational Medical Centers, has over 20 years experience in occupational health nursing. Her first lecture, "Injury Assessment Tips for the Occupational Health Professional," will present assessment techniques for evaluating common occupational injuries and illnesses. Dr. Guzik's second presentation, "Case Conundrums: Why Didn't I Think of That?" is an entertaining and educational case review session for various OHN situational scenarios. Richard F. Johnson, MD, MPH, president of Lakeside Occupational Medical Center, the largest occupational medicine practice serving Southwest Florida and a strong proponent of OHNs, joins Dr. Guzik at the symposium.

Barb Maxwell, RN, MHA, COHN-S, CCM, CWCP, QRP also of Florida, is Division Director of Company Care Occupational Services with HCA (Hospital Corporation of America). Her lecture, "Enhance Your Case Management Services by Partnering With Others" will explore the positive economic impact OHNs make and effective strategies they can use for success in today's tough economy.
