The power situation in Norway as of 22 April

Lysaker, 22 April 2009

Nord Pool has received the following information from the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE):

Increased reservoir level
Inflow high above normal contributed to an increase in the water level in Norwegian reservoirs last week. In spite of increased hydro power generation, the reservoir level increased by 0.7 percentage points to 30.7 percents. In Southern and Middle Norway the reservoir levels increased by 1.2 and 0.8 percentage points respectively, while it decreased by 0.9 percentage points in Northern Norway. There was an increase in the reservoir level of Swedish reservoirs too last week.
The inflow to Norwegian reservoirs was 2.6 TWh last week, which is more than twice as much as normal. Temperatures were above normal too. The snow reservoir level culminated last week. Normally the snow reservoir level maximum occurs around the end of April or the beginning of May.
