NASDAQ Announces Mid-Month Open Short Interest Positions in NASDAQ Stocks as of Settlement Date April 15, 2009


NEW YORK, April 24, 2009 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- At the end of the settlement date of April 15, 2009, short interest in 2,521 NASDAQ Global Market(sm) securities totaled 6,608,646,412 shares compared with 6,950,034,522 shares in 2,528 Global Market issues reported for the prior settlement date of March 31, 2009. The mid-April short interest represents 3.09 days average daily NASDAQ Global Market share volume for the reporting period, compared with 3.02 days for the prior reporting period.

Short interest in 476 securities on The NASDAQ Capital Market(sm) totaled 99,670,613 shares at the end of the settlement date of April 15, 2009, compared with 98,804,865 shares in 481 securities for the previous reporting period. This represents 1.21 days average daily volume, compared with the previous reporting period's figure of 2.27.

In summary, short interest in all 2,997 NASDAQ(r) securities totaled 6,708,317,025 shares at the April 15, 2009 settlement date, compared with 3,009 issues and 7,048,839,387 shares at the end of the previous reporting period. This is 3.02 days average daily volume, compared with an average of 3.00 days for the previous reporting period.
