DONG Energy has begun a process to provide even more people with the
opportunity to tap into the major potential of fibre optic communications. This
is to be achieved by holding talks with selected Danish and foreign businesses
providing telecommunications, mobile and internet services. The result may be
that DONG Energy enters into a partnership, or DONG Energy may find a buyer for
its fibre optic activities.
“Fibre optics are the communication technology of the future, so we want many
more people to sign up for the ultra-high speed internet of tomorrow and get
high-quality digital TV and phone calls at competitive prices,” says René Vedø,
Senior Vice President of DONG Energy and responsible for fibre optic networks.
Over the past three years, DONG Energy has established a communications
platform that guarantees that many households and businesses in the Danish
province of Zealand can get quick and cheap access to the many rewards of fibre
optic networks, compared to traditional broadband packages.
“We are sticking to our plans as far as establishing the infrastructure is
con-cerned, but it is taking longer than anticipated to develop the market and
get the customers on board. Our aim is to get a lot more customers interested
in fibre optics faster, so that is why we are open to getting involved in a
partnership or to completely handing over the baton,” says René Vedø.
The subject of this release does not alter the expected financial result for
the 2009 financial year or the expected level of investment announced by DONG
Energy on 6 March 2009.
